Giulia Barbini, flute – Italy
Giulia started studying flute in Florence at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory. After graduating, she was a student of Chiara Tonelli and in 2003, she moved to Graz, Austria and received her diploma in 2008 from the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst with Dieter Flury (principal flutist of the Wiener Philharmoniker). Since 2003, Giulia has collaborated with numerous orchestras such as the Neue Oper Wien, the Symphonieorchester des Festival junger Künstler Bayreuth, the KlangImpuls Orchester Graz and the European Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2004, she has also played as substitute for the Wiener Staatsoper.
Giulia’s interests in contemporary and electronic music brought her to study and work for a year at Fabrica Benetton, a center founded by Oliviero Toscani and Luciano Benetton for exploring artistical expression and communication. While at Fabrica, she worked on projects with musicians and composers such as Claudio Ambrosini, the Kronos Quartet and the Balanescu Quartet.
In the last few years, Giulia has dedicated herself to the study of classical and romantic repertoire on period instruments. She attended the Formation Supérieure training course with the Jeune Orchestra Atlantique in France (playing with such musicians as Alfredo Bernardini, Philippe Herreweghe, Bernard Labadie, Robert Levin, Marc Minkowski, David Stern and Hervè Niquet). Giulia is currently part of the Ann and Peter Law Experience with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and is a member of the Orchestre des Champs-Elysèes.
